Maintaining a healthy fitness routine requires that you eliminate any reason to not exercise. Start small and only devote 15 minutes a day to exercising if that is all that you think you have time for. Once you start this, you can build from it and completely extinguish the “no time” excuse. If your excuse is that you are too out of shape, then start slowly by walking or even just doing basic stretches.
Fitness takes discipline, so learn to kill your excuses before they start. Exercise routines typically falter because of laziness or disorganization. Buy an organizer and schedule out your exercise routine. This way, you’ll stay on top of your routine and make sure that you’re hitting all of your target areas on schedule.
In order to achieve the best results from your fitness workout, stay hydrated. If you sweat out too much of your body weight, it creates stress on your cardiovascular system, which can negatively affect your performance. Approximately 2 hours before your workout, drink at least 16 oz (two cups) of fluids. While exercising, drink about 10 oz every 20 minutes: more if it is a high intensity workout. Upon finishing your workout, drink another 16 oz. This may seem like a lot, but it is surprising how dehydrated you can become in a very short time.
Limit your weight lifting time to one hour. Muscle wasting happens within an hour. Watch the time and stop lifting weights before you hit the 60 minute mark.
There are alternative methods to being physically fit besides the standard of weight lifting and cardiovascular work. Sports such as swimming and basketball can give your body a good workout by exercising all of your body parts, and you can have fun while doing it.
Whenever you bicycle, try and maintain a pace ranging from a minimum of 80 to a maximum of 110 rpm. You will ride faster before you become tired, but put less strain on your knees. Check your pace by figuring out how many times you raise your right leg in ten seconds and multiplying that sum by six. This is the rpm range that you need to strive for.
To increase the strength of your forearms, try this great tip from tennis and racquetball players. Begin by placing a piece of newspaper on top of a flat surface like a table or the floor. For half of a minute, crumple up the whole paper with only the dominant hand. Once you have finished doing this, do this exercise once with your off-hand, then switch back to your dominant hand and do two more repetitions.
Runners can effectively increase their overall speed not by increasing the length of each running stride, but by trying to increase the actual speed of each individual stride. In the ideal stride, your foot should always land on the ground directly beneath your body instead of landing in front of you.
It is best to not workout on an empty stomach. Your body needs fuel, particularly if you are putting it through a grueling and sweat-inducing workout. Fuel up on good, healthy foods that will provide you with the energy you need to get through your workout and your body will thank you.
These fitness tips should inspire you to take a look at your fitness efforts with a fresh eye, work on things that need improving, and ramp up the routines that are working for you. Your goals are in sight, now, you just have to stick to your plan. Good luck!
